Ground Contract
A Marine serving in a ground MOS is the backbone of the Corps--as a ground officer, you will be what people picture when
they think of Marine. Infantry, logistics, military police, air defense, artillery, intelligence, and armor are just a few examples
of the fields you can specialize in as you lead Marines in operations around the world. Make no mistake, the leadership abilities you will hone
at OCS and TBS will be put to the test, but as the recipient of the best military training in the world, you will be ready for whatever
challenges you face. A ground contract requires a committment of four years (48 months). Your Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) will be determined at The Basic School as a composite of your personal
desires, your performance at TBS, and the needs of the Marine Corps. You will have the opportunity to specialize in the following MOS:
- Infantry - Command of Marine infantry platoons
- Combat Engineering - Command of the Marines who build roads, airstrips, fortifications, bridges, etc.
- Tracked Vehicles - Command of tanks, light assualt vehicles, and amphibious transports
- Field Artillery - Command of artillery batteries
- Communications - Command of the units that allow Marines to communicate over radios and data links, as well as those that specialize in message cryptology
- Air Control/Anti-Air Warfare - Command of the Marines who control airspace, monitor air traffic, and operate surface-to-air defense systems
- Data Systems - Command the Marines who operate and maintain the Corps' extensive computer systems
- Supply - Control the material needed to supply the Corps' needs in a timely manner
- Intelligence - Collect and analyze tactical intelligence on enemy positions, strengths, weaknesses, etc., using both human and technological means
- Logistics - Command the Marines who organize troop movements, and the allocations and movements of both men and material
See the MOS guide book for more details on each military occupational specialty.
